I am getting my hands dirty with Video Processing or NLE (Non-Linear Editing) apps and terminology…

Working with Pinnacle Studio 8 (bundled with MovieBox USB hardware) has given me a great lesson on how usability can be combined with fine results…

I am not saying that Studio is 100% stable or unique at what is does, but does the work anyhow quickly and with no additional hasles whatsoever….

What is frustrating is that the drivers provided by Pinnacle are propriatery and somehow locked. This, in other words, means that no other app(lication) can use MovieBox USB to capture video content. So, MovieBox users are forced to use Studio for capturing and then transcode the captured material to AVI (using HuffYUV) codec to import and frame-by-frame edit in i.e. Adobe Premiere.

I am in the middle of creating a table that summarizes all the experiments i carried out using different combinations of apps and codecs, in order to see which codecs do the job and with which applications. Table: coming soon in pdf format.

Everything went smooth and i am referring to the 2004 Athens Olympics of course.

Not that they were hosted by my home town, Athens, but i feel proud that all the people involved managed to adhere to the deadline and, moreover, organize them without worth mentioning flaws whatsoever.

There is one thing though that spoiled that worldwide sports celebration – the closing ceremony.

In my humble opinion, the c.c (aka closing ceremony) was, to say the least, not as good and impressive as the opening. I guess there was not enough money for things like those that took place during the opening ceremony….(i am kidding of course)…

Nevermind. If you come to think of it more the closing ceremony was actually closer to the modern perspective of things in Greece and the way of life here.

So what if gypsies came into the stadium selling watermellons and dancing endlessly?

When you come to grips with your (sometimes hilarious to others) reality and have overcome your inferiority syndroms or complexes, then you can really joke about things that previously seemed non-pleasing.

And it is quite soothing to come to grips with things that seemed or seem non-pleasing…Like facing your most dreaded fears and inner-deamons, with the touch of humour and self-knowledge.

Give it a try. It works. I know – i have tried it.
